Mission and Ministry

We are truly blessed at Holy Innocents’ to have so many worthwhile opportunities to donate our time, talent, and treasure to organizations through our Mission and Ministry programs.

Holy Innocents’ seeks to transform the lives of those in need, particularly in eastern Hillsborough County. Priority is given to Christian organizations that promote the spread of the Gospel or meet human needs or alleviate suffering.

Mission & Ministries

Angel Tree: Buys and distributes Christmas gifts for families who parent or parents are incarcerated and distributes the gifts with a church-wide Christmas Event.

Scouts: We are a charter organization for Scout Troops 109 & 901. Educational program for boys, girls, and young adults to build character and learn the responsibility of participating and citizenship.

Bread Ministry: Pick up bread from a local grocery store and distribute it to Meals on Wheels clients and others in the community in need of food.

Family Promise: A local non-profit that aids local homeless families by giving a safe place to stay in churches while they secure jobs and homes. Holy Innocents’ is one of a network of churches in the Brandon area who participate once every quarter.

Mission and Ministry - kidsPack

KidsPACK: Provides food bags to children in need at local Dover Elementary so that they have food on weekends when they are away from school. Holy Innocents’ packs food bags every other week at church, then deliver them to Dover.

Meals-on-Wheels: Provides and delivers hot meals to homebound needy families

Mission Trips: Organized trips to different locations in the country and around the world to help those in need.

Rachel’s Guild: Makes quilts for abused, abandoned and neglected children at Joshua House

Adopt-a-Family: Buys and distributes gifts and cash to needy families during the Christmas season

Emergency Care Health Organization (ECHO): Donates food, clothing and school supplies for needy families

Seafarers Center Ministries: Collects toiletries and personal supplies for merchant seamen who come to the Port of Tampa.

Stewardship

Stewardship

Stewardship Committee: Support the mission of Holy Innocents’. Plan and organize annual stewardship programs and campaigns.

Year-Round Stewardship: Lay ministry and service opportunities booklet and promotion activities. Time, talent, and treasure reporting and documentation.

Bequest Giving: Provide information for end of life-giving for the work of Holy Innocents’.

Adult Discipleship

Mission and Ministry - Daughters of the King

Adult Christian Education Classes: 9:15 a.m. on Sundays in various locations on the church campus. Adult classes offered on a wide variety of topics.

Bereavement Team: Supports parishioners who have lost a loved one.

Cursillo: Retreat Weekend held at our diocesan retreat center (Dayspring). Cursillo prepares people for leadership in the church.

Home Groups: Small groups for fellowship hosted by other parishioners in their homes.

Brotherhood of St. Andrew (BSA): Established in 1883, the BSA is the oldest evangelic ministry of the Episcopal Church. Our mission is to assist men and boys with their relationship with Christ. Check calendar for meeting schedule. During meetings, we pray for and update our prayer list, discuss planned readings and upcoming service projects.

Daughter’s of the King: Women’s group that meets for prayer and service for the spread of Christ’s Kingdom. Check the calendar for meeting time.

Women’s Bible Study: Check the church calendar for schedule. There are several studies offered throughout the year.

Worship

Acolytes

Acolytes: Acolytes are young people of the church who assist in the Sunday service by carrying the cross, torches, and lighting candles

Altar Guild: Altar Guild sets up the Altar before all services and makes sure that everything is in place for worship

Baptism Classes: Prepares adults seeking baptism and parents of children who are having a child baptized

Bell Choir: Adds a majestic sound to our worship services once a month. Check the Church calendar for practice times and days.

Holy Innocents’ Parish Choir: Sings at the 10:30 a.m. service and on special occasions. Check the Church calendar for practice times and days.

The Children and Youth Choir: The Children and Youth Choir is open to all children grades 3 through 8. Contact the Choir Director, Matthew Swickey, for more information at music@hiepiscopal.org.

Lay Readers: The congregation reads the scriptures during worship services.

Chalice Bearers: Serve the wine during the Eucharist

Ushers: This ministry is open to anyone willing to serve one Sunday per month during the worship service. Duties include providing bulletins to arriving worshipers, collecting offerings, and assisting during the communion service.

Greeters: Greet parishioners and new people, one Sunday a month. Guide newcomers to Parish Hall for coffee hour and answer questions they might have.

Audio-Visual Team: Sound team volunteers help in the sound booth during Sunday Services, funerals, and other church events. No experience is necessary.

Helping Hands: Meeting the needs of families when there is an illness, accident, death, or birth of a child

Parish Events: Coordinates all fellowship, hospitality, and parish events for Holy Innocents

Sunday Coffee Hour: A ministry that welcomes anyone after both Sunday services to have drinks and a snack in the Parish Hall, and provide social time to connect with others, particularly newcomers. Participants can bring a snack to share by signing up in the Parish Hall; those wanting to do more can help set up, make coffee & help clean up.

Greeting Cards: Cards are sent to the congregants who share their Anniversary and/or Birthday with us on behalf of the church family.

Healing Ministry: The Healing Ministry Team is available for prayer every Sunday in the Chapel area after Communion or by appointment.

Hospital Visitation: There are two team members tasked to visit the hospital every week. One generally visits in the first part of the week, and the second visit the last half of the week.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors: This team is trained to bring Holy Communion to those identified by the Pastor, who are unable to come to church. Each team generally visits once a month.

Prayer Chain: This team of “prayer warriors” prays every day for those who ask for prayer or are in need of prayer, contacted through email, and always confidential.
