HIY Youth Group (grades 6-12)

Our Youth Group is a vibrant and vital part of the life of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church. Our youth ministries are open to all 6th-12th graders and our mission is to provide:

A safe place for Christian youth to come together and openly discuss their walk with God, the bible, and their personal experiences with no judgement and surrounded by others that share the same faith,
Opportunities for community outreach and serving others, and
Opportunities for students to build positive relationships with one another in fun and engaging ways.

If you would like to be an adult chaperone (19+) for any of our youth events, please email Morgan, our Youth Minister. You must be trained in Safeguarding God’s Children. It is a short class that is taken online. Once you have contacted Morgan, she can get you registered through the Diocese to take the class.

Weekly Offerings

Youth Group Sunday School takes place every Sunday morning between church services at 9:30 AM. We meet in the rector’s office in Kiser Hall and then transition to the Parish Hall to join our families and friends.
On Sunday evenings we gather for our Youth Group program from 5-7pm. Dinner is provided by various families in ministries who sign up for our Meal Train at the start of the school year. Our evenings include games, prayer, weekly check-ins, and studies on relevant topics about the issues our teens face today and understanding of our Episcopal identity through the Book of Common Prayer.
On Wednesday afternoons our High Schoolers meet for Taco ‘Bout Jesus at the Bloomingdale Tijuana Flats. From 4:30-5:30pm we enjoy snacks and conversation as we study the Gospel for the upcoming Sunday. Taco ‘Bout Jesus breaks during the summer.
On Wednesday nights the congregation gathers for Evening Prayer & Potluck. This is an inter-generational evening of fellowship and prayer that invites everyone to attend and feel included. We start in the chapel for lay-led Evening Prayer, and then transition into the Parish Hall for our potluck dinner.

Diocesan Events We Attend:

New Beginnings (middle school) – This diocesan event is a weekend retreat at DaySpring Episcopal Conference Center for youth in grades 6-8.
Happening (high school) – This weekend retreat is also held at DaySpring, but it’s for all high-schoolers, grades 9-12.

Forms

Release Form: This online release form must be completed prior to a teen participating in any youth activity with Holy Innocents’, on- and off-property. There may also be additional release forms for special events, including mission trips, lock-ins, and Rock the Universe, when the youth minister sees fit.
